Local IP Address Finder

This Local IP Address Finder shows the private IP addresses your device is using on your network, such as the address your router gave it. That's useful for setting up remote desktop, printers, game servers, port forwarding, or checking whether a VPN is active.

Local IP Discovery

How to find your local IP address

  • Allow access: Browsers hide your real local addresses for privacy unless the page has camera or microphone permission. Click 'Allow microphone access' if it appears. Nothing is recorded.
  • Show Local IP: Click 'Show Local IP' to list the addresses your browser can see.
  • Copy: Use the copy button next to any address to copy it to your clipboard.

What the address types mean

  • Home LAN (192.168.x.x): The most common range for home routers.
  • Enterprise LAN / VPN (10.x.x.x): Common on office networks and VPN connections.
  • Docker / Virtual Adapter (172.16–172.31.x.x): Often used by Docker, WSL, and virtual machines, though some office networks use it too.
  • Link-Local (169.254.x.x): Your device couldn't get an address from the router. This usually points to a DHCP or connection problem.
  • IPv6: The newer address format, shown when your network supports it.

These are private addresses on your local network. Your public IP address, the one websites see, is assigned by your internet provider and isn't shown here.

Common Issues & Fixes

No addresses are shown

  • Permission: Without microphone permission, browsers replace your addresses with random names, so the list stays empty. Allow access and click 'Show Local IP' again.
  • Browser privacy settings: Some browsers and extensions block this kind of discovery entirely. Try another browser, or use the command line below.
  • Command line: On Windows, open Command Prompt and run 'ipconfig'. On macOS or Linux, run 'ifconfig' or 'ip addr' in a terminal.

Only a 169.254 address appears

  • Reconnect: Disconnect and reconnect to Wi-Fi, or unplug and replug the network cable.
  • Restart the router: The router may not be handing out addresses. Restart it.

Use this tool to grab your local IP address in a couple of clicks, without digging through network settings.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this need microphone permission?

Browsers only reveal local network addresses to pages that already have camera or microphone access. The microphone isn't actually used or recorded.

Is my IP address sent anywhere?

No. The addresses are found and displayed entirely in your browser.
